ARTIST PROFILE: DEQN SUE // written by Bri Cisneros

DEQN SUE serves a fresh ‘n funky sound from Los Angeles to Alabama. Romantic, yet edgy- you’re bound to fall in love with her sound.

In her spare time, Deqn Sue digs pineapple upside-down cakes, glazed donuts, writing music that she loves and performing live. She also loves sunsets when the sky looks like cotton candy, but above all else, Deqn Sue absolutely LOVES her fan base and appreciates YOUR support!

She completely captivates her audience with her groovy beats and unique lyrics, co-produced by Deqn, alongside her creative partner/ producer Kelvin Wooten.

With her eccentric beats and the conviction heard in her voice, a special space is created for us to temporarily escape reality and essentially enter an alternate universe.

Although live shows are currently still postponed, Deqn’s performances are an unforgettable experience that will leave you speechless for years to come. She was featured on NPR’s Tiny Desk series, which you can enjoy below!

Her father was in the entertainment industry himself, so music began influencing her life at a very young age.

Determined to follow in her father’s footsteps, Deqn fulfilled her dream of becoming a singer and songwriter. With the support and encouragement from her parents, Deqn began to sing in her church, to gain the experience of performing in front of others. Unbeknownst to her, she FELL IN LOVE.

Still, she enjoys all types of genres, with Motown & funk captivating her the most.

Combining her roots singing with the church and her open mind to all genres, she has created a quirky sound that showcases her creativity and individuality.

My personal favorites include: “Unicorn”,“Creep”, and “Bloody Monster”, the latter of which was featured in the four time Emmy award winning series “Orange Is The New Black”.

She is visually inspired by abstract artists like Keith Haring, Dondi, Kobra, and Banksy, proving once again that the influences in our lives create identities that last a lifetime..

And Deqn has created an amazing name for herself.

This creative soul also enjoys screenprinting, painting, ceramics, and designing her own merchandise. From her shop, I own the “Shimmy Shimmy'' shirt, inspired by her hit Bloody Monster, and my next purchase will be “The Color Block'' shirt!

The best way to escape our physical existence and enter a simulation of funk&soul, is through her music, so follow her on Spotify and stream her latest single “Creep”. For further support, cop a shirt she designed at , they hella cute or wuteva :-)
